Game, set, match! The US Open is in full swing and we’re all about tennis. Of course, since we love jewelry, we can’t help thinking about tennis bracelets. The tennis bracelet is known as a flexible bracelet with diamonds (usually of the same size) set closely together, one after the other, in a line all the way around the wrist. Tennis bracelets come in all shapes and sizes and while primarily known as a diamond bracelet, other gemstones are often used in this design.
The term tennis bracelet actually got its name from a jewelry malfunction involving tennis player Chris Evert during a US Open match in 1987. While playing her match, the clasp of her diamond line bracelet broke open and fell off her wrist. She then asked officials to stop the match until the bracelet was found. Since that time, the diamond line bracelet has been referred to as a tennis bracelet.
